Meeting Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi
I was thrilled today to be in conversation with a deeply inspirational figure of contemporary India who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 along with Malala Yusufzai. Dr Kailash Satyarthi has been tirelessly working towards creating a safe space for children rescued from illegal labour environments. It was amazing to hear his views on the latest Nobel Peace Prize 'transfer' from Maria Machado of Venezuela to Donald Trump. He was at Bennett University as chief guest of our bookfest 'Aalekh' and so he also spoke about his latest book ‘Karuna: The Power of Compassion’ which delves deeper into the principles that have defined his work and life so far. “Compassion is a not a soft emotion,” he explained, “it is a force that is powerful and demands courage, accountability and action.” He urged Gen Z not to get swayed by social pressures but to look at the world through the lens of compassion. Towards that he mentioned 'CQ' or Compassion Quotient that he believed was more important than IQ and EQ as it was a more tangible and measurable metric as it not only measured individual talent but also how humans connected with each other
